[Bangkok Food Adventures] Karmakamet Diner Review: Tasty Crab Pasta, but Give Desserts a Miss

Last term, Gigi recommended Karmakamet to me because she said the desserts were extremely instagram-worthy, and I also saw Tommy Wee instagram this place and the decor was amazing. I think he also had pretty great reviews of the food, so I decided to drag Bratty there to get some pictures #fothegram

I really love the vibe of this entire place, with the unfinished floors, and the wooden fixtures, and the brown decorative glass bottles they used as dividers.

Their outdoor sitting area was also really lovely and chill. However, we requested to be seated indoors as the weather in Bangkok then was dreadful.

Gigi said the food she tried here wasn't that good, so we avoided their breakfast items, and went straight for mains like fish and chips, and pasta. Daryl actually ordered this because he was enticed by the whole black cod fish and chips thing going on, but sad to say it was really quite mediocre.

He said the fish itself was pretty good, but look at how thick and doughy the skin is!

In the end, he had a whole bunch of untouched carby batter on his plate, and he just dug all the fish out. Nasty.

My choice of spicy crab pasta was way better though, and this is one dish I'll definitely be back for.

They were really generous with the amount of fresh crab meat and ikura, and I was surprised because this was only approximately 500baht? It was really, really spicy though, so I don't recommend this for people who can't take the heat.

If you can, this is a great option, because the heat from the chili pairs so well with the sweetness of the crab meat and the salty unami flavour from the ikura.

I insisted on getting this lavender cotton candy dessert thingy just because I thought it might be instagram-worthy. Another good instagramamble option would be their multi-coloured strawberry cotton candy dessert, which is plated slightly different.

Hiding beneath the giant ball of cotton candy was this lavender cake with lavender ice-cream, and a lavender choux. Basically.............. it really sucked. The cake was dense and dry, the ice cream was too icy, and the lavender taste was too overwhelming. The choux bun filled with a thick and heavy lavender pastry cream was also terrible.

I don't actually recommend going down because there are way better cafe options to consider in Bangkok. However, I must say the crab pasta is worth a return trip for me since I'll be in Bangkok for another 2 months.
