If you've been following this space for awhile, you'd have realised this is my all time favourite ban mian place!!!
The soup is super clear and not oily at all, the anchovies are never too salty, the bak chor is tender without being fatty, the veg is always crisp and fresh, and the portions are super generous.
I love ordering the fishball one cos the fishballs are so bouncy and taste v nice with the chilli but recently I've also started liking the abalone clams one.

So what we discovered we could do is to order the abalone clams one and add 3 fishballs for $1!! #bestofbothworlds

2. China Whampoa Home Made Noodles
You probably also knew this place would end up on the list. Their ban mian soup is pretty decent, but i usually come here for the dry ban mian. The sauce is hearty mix of black sauce and chilli and while some people find it too sweet, i think it's just nice!! They have two different kinds of chilli - the savoury one and the sweet one with pineapple and i like them both so i always take both!!

The ban mian typically comes with prawns that are not peeled so if you're lazy like me, ask for no prawn or get the abalone clams one hahaha π They're not as generous with the portions of ingredients here though but the anchovies here are always v fragrant

3. Poon Nah City Ban Mian
Been eating here regularly for 4 plus years because its so superbly yummy!!! Brought my colleagues here and some of them didnt like it cos it was too plain but thats kinda what I like about it!!
The noodles are chewy but tend to get soft quite fast so eat fast!! The soup is also super not oily one. I rly hate ban mian places where half the soup is oil. Also, they use the traditional kind of ban mian veg which takes some getting used to but i quite like it hehe

It's abit hard to describe but its just very simple and hearty plus i love that the chilli is super fiery and shiok! Also i think this is one of the cheapest ban mians around. I always get the fish maw mee hoon kway here cos yknow, lazy to peel prawns #whatsnew oh the only con is that it doesnt come with an egg π’

4. Qiu Lian Ban Mian
This is your typical run of the mill food court ban mian, but i like it cos it's accessible for me! I can go there for lunch whenever and it's decent.
Sure its not great, but a hungry beggar battling the lunch crowd in novena cannot afford to be picky. The noodles are the factory made kind, and the soup is laden with msg, but i do like the tangy chilli sauce and the juicy dumplings!! Yas, sometimes i get ι₯ΊεζΏι’ instead of the normal one.

I only like the Qiu Lian at united square food court though. Not ion and not city square mall and not toa payoah and not anywhere else. I suspect its cos the chilli there is different!!!

5. J99 Eating House
I've only tried this place once, but it's good enough to be on this list. The dry ban mian isnt as sweet as the whampoa one and there's no chilli in the sauce, but it's simple and comforting!! And i quite like the lettuce in the noodles. Tastes super yummy with cut chilli padi Idek how something so simple can be so good. I still prefer the whampoa one to this, but this is not bad too. Heard the soup one is also not bad π
